Narrative in Clay: Studio Practice and Pedagogy
Jessica Gardner, a mother of two and Professor of Art at Northern Virginia Community College, holds a Master of Fine Arts from Georgia State University. She earned her Post-Baccalaureate certificate at the University of Florida and completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Alfred University.
Recently, Jessica was added to the Feminist Art Archive. She exhibited in Legacy, an exhibition celebrating the range of media and visual methods used by artists to express the feminine experience. Jessica has also presented lectures such as “Small but Nimble” at the 2025 FATE Conference, a panel exploring how small art programs can make a significant impact.
Publications and Recognition
Jessica Gardner work has been featured in publications including 500 Teapots Volume 2 by Lark Books, Ceramics: Art and Perception, and the Both Artist and Mother blog. These recognitions reflect ongoing engagement with the ceramic community and contemporary discourse surrounding craft and motherhood.
Gardner sculptures are included in permanent collections at the Canton Museum of Art in Canton, Ohio; the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute Collection in Jingdezhen, China; the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, Arkansas; and the Porter Price Collection in Columbia, South Carolina.
